Could this be the future of Needledrops?

Could this be the future of Needledrops? Just tracing the lines out and putting it into a music converter? Could rare Beatles outtakes be heard using this as there are photos of acetates online.

I remember reading this a few years back when this came out. Definitely interesting. Seems unlikely to me that it competes with normal needledrops. But definitely is cool that there is an option for some things. It just seems that those things have to be discs you do not have physical access to in order to just digitize on a good quality audio system - BUT still have access to very good quality images.

What's the difference, really, between sharing a file containing an image of a waveform and sharing a file containing data as we do now. Both are just stored information and both then need decoding into something else to send to the speakers. Isn't it just a different way of doing the same thing?
