It can help to run a portable browser (like
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable) for these specific cases where you need a 'blank slate'.

I can confirm that in my case, being logged-in to my Google Drive account solved the "Zip Failed" error.
Based on my experiences, I'd say Google Drive is buggy and poorly implemented. At the very least, a user should encounter a "You Must Have a Google Drive Account, and Be Logged-In to Download" message when trying to access files to download. For me, this would have solved the "zip failed" issue immediately.

Sign into Google drive first and download from there. Works everytime.
