If you run a needle over the cassettes you will ruin them ;-)

You actually want a digital "transfer".

Do I need a turntable that plays at 1 7/8 IPS?

Why hasn't anyone ever uploaded, for instance(?), a vintage U.K. TAPE of Rubber Soul in stereo? Whether: the U.K. 8-track or the 1968 four-inch reel in a plastic jewel box(?). It would be revealing to hear the 1965 R.S. mixes from a British source better than a record and pre-dating ROM file digitally-duplicated cassettes.

Beatles Cassettes Tape-ography(pdf)-----> https://www.friktech.com/btls/tapes/k7.pdf
I found this guide which has a picture of the A Hard Day's Night UA cassette tape from 1968. The oldest cassette I ever owned was Alice Cooper - Killer.
Paper graphics glued to a white plastic clamshell case. The tape formulation was almost pink in color. I noticed in the mid-80s, that the ferric coating had delaminated from the acetate(?) backing. It looked like confetti. The tape was stored well. That hasn't happened to any of the commercial grade blank cassettes. Not even TDK D-series. I always thought Maxell XLII-S C90 performed the best. I would expect the MFSL tapes to be professional studio grade rather than retail mass produced variety. How do you say AUDUA<----(TDK high bias)?
The Beatles Blue Box was even issued on cassette by EMI-Toshiba. It was probably more well made than their vinyl version.
