Re: 'Are there any good headphones that just slide up against your ears without having cups on them?' - this is Grado's default design. It's why they leak so much sound - but they do sound great.

In the good 'ol days when nothing "audiophile" would have been outsourced to the equivalent of a sweatshop:

Re: Decent "audiophile" headphones
I’m not an audiophile by any definition. In fact I finally moved over to Bluetooth this year and splurged on a pair of Apple AirPod Max headphones so I’m compromising there. They're pretty marvelous though IMO. They translate surround content well which was the main reason I bought them. The Abbey Road Atmos mix sounds great in them, as does the White Album surround mix. These are my first pair of over-the-ear headphones and I’ll never go back to on ear again.
Anyway, probably not what you are looking for, but tossing out a recommendation for anyone willing to consider Bluetooth.

I completely agree. I just got a newer pair for Yule and they are just marvelous!!Bazilnerk wrote: ↑Sat Dec 25, 2021 8:26 pm I'm a recording and remastering engineer by trade if that makes any difference. I would not swap my Audio Technica ATH M50's for anything. A clarity and bass response that beats any other set of headphones. I've had my pair for 20 years (although i've swapped the cable out and the headband in that time) When they finally give up will go for the more recent M50x. I bought my son the ATH M20x. Not quite as good, but comparable.
I've used AKG's, Sennheiser's, Beyer's and high-end Sony's, but the AT's are still my favourite.
Cheers

I love my Audio-Technica ATH-M50XBT. Absolutely great sound and nice to be free of the cables.

The thing I don't like about headphone sthese days is the obsession with colouring the sound. If I want more bass i just turn the bass up, I don't want an album remastered with amplified bass played back through headphones with a deliberately bassy response.
The Grado ones look kind of like what I might want, so I might go for those. Wish I could try them first though.
