I think it's taken out of context.

He did write the lyrics for the second verse with John, something he mentioned a long time ago to Miles in the book 'Many Years From Now'.

I think the NME has been selective in what he's said to them to make an attention grabbing headline, or just made a mistake in what he was actually talking about.
