Apart in Perfect Harmony

Hi All,

I'm a long time lurker and occasional poster on the old Bootlegzone. It's taken me a while to get around to this forum, but it's good to see some of the old familiar names here.

I've recently become fascinated by spectral remixes, particularly in respect of splitting two or three part harmony into their constituent parts. I don't know how my efforts compare with others, so I'm posting some of them here to get some feedback.

Mono sources were used throughout. Vocals have been split, but the instrumentation remains firmly in the centre.

The tracks are:

1. Love Me Do - Andy White version. John on the left, Paul on the right.
2. Please Please Me - John on the left, Paul on the right, and occasional George in the centre.
3. This Boy - John's lead vocal in the centre, George on the left, and Paul on the right.
4. Words of Love (BBC) - John on the left, Paul on the right.
5. Don't Ever Change - George on the left, Paul on the right.
6. Baby's in Black - John on the left, Paul on the right.

Tracks added:

7. I Don't Want To Spoil The Party - John melody line on the left during the verses, harmonising with himself on the right. During the choruses, Paul sings the high melody on the right, while John stays on the left providing the low harmony.
8. I'll Be Back - John left, Paul Right
9. If I Fell - John left, Paul right

Be aware that it's not perfect - there are a few audio wobbles, and splitting isn't possible when both voices are in unison - but I'm quite happy with these.

Thank you for sharing! These are really impressive. Separating those close vocal harmonies is very tricky. Do you mind sharing with us what software you are using for this? Are you using SpectraLayers or something along those lines?

Just listened, very good presentation! Keeping the backing music mono allows the voices to shine in stereo.

Idea: Now that you have the vocal separations, make more mixes with only one Beatles singing at a time throughout the song.

WOW, these are really, really interesting! I especially like This Boy with the vocals split three ways. Words Of Love and Don't Ever Change are also fascinating.

It's interesting to hear how softly Paul sings his harmonies. I've noticed this before but it's come into sharper focus more recently with the new technology. It's a very clever contrast to the main vocal sung in full voice. He couldn't sing like that in concert - it'd just get lost - so their harmonies never sounded quite as good on stage.

Very nice - let's have lots, lots more of these please! :D

Great job, I second their request, keep them coming please! Has this been done (John's lead vocal in the centre, George on the left, and Paul on the right) on Because and Yes It Is?
