I did like the ending credits where they showed the raw footage of the group performing Roll Over Beethoven (with card slate).

Is the broadcast in Atmos? I downloaded a copy from the net, and it didn't appear to be.

remember when you were in The Beatles? and the song goes, “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make”? You.. you remember that?
Yes.
Uh.. is that true?
Yes, Chris. In my experience I find, the more you give, the more you get.

I don't know why people always believe "this is the time the Beatles/Apple are going to give us diehards what we really want!" It's a fantasy. It's all about image control. Apple wants to portray an image which is easily marketable and can sell. They want us all to forget that these were four guys in their 20's living the rock and roll lifestyle and all that came with it. It's a whitewash.

I guess in all there is nothing wrong with this documentary other than it is the complete opposite of what we all wanted and expected. The glowing reviews from the mainstream media show that it hit its mark: people who aren't really proper Beatles fans but who like their music, even if they don't listen to it anymore.

Well, I wasn't expecting too much, so I was pleasantly surprised.
I liked the odd little bits I hadn't seen before--especially how "Got My Mind Set On You" popped up in there.
The Leonard Bernstein bits just made me wish more than ever that somebody could dig up the film or 2" master or whatever there might be of Inside Pop and release the whole thing; it's a treasure. Enjoyed the McLuhan bits in there too--very Bravermanesque and fun to see.
Jack Douglas was a nice surprise too.
I wasn't too wild about how the whole thing began and ended--strangely quiet, for something that is supposed to be about the big splash the Fabs were making in America. I liked the Lennon quote at the end, but again...to go out that way just seemed limp.
Though I know Scorcese only produced it, not directed it, I did feel a similarity to his Living In The Material World film--where, instead of some straight chronological anal-retentive doc, it included interesting side bits that illuminate the subject in a different way.
I kinda doubt I'll watch it again or repeatedly, but it was an enjoyable holiday show to relax to.

I've just finished watching it.
It was alright. But obviously The First U.S. Visit was so much better.
I wish the movie didn't have any talking, except for John, Paul, George and Ringo interviews.

Is this lady, shown in the new doc, Gloria Emerson...
...who had that unforunate (for her) interview with John & Yoko in 1969?

I beg to differ, it has been mere years since Get Back was released, on the very same streaming platform, which was everything but a whitewash, rather the image of a band being washed out on everything.billychildish wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 11:57 pm I don't know why people always believe "this is the time the Beatles/Apple are going to give us diehards what we really want!"
