Believe whatever you like, I used to get this distortion while transferring moderately-worn vinyl with an elliptical stylus until I switched to an Audio-Technica microline stylus.
I’ve been in the market for an elliptical stylus for some time now…haven’t pulled the trigger yet though

I'm going to guess that is backing vocalist Paul doing his Little Richard thing. I might also be hearing a bit of John doing his interjection thing as well.

Now, this was a good opportunity to recover the lead vocal from across the room – unless that is part of the charm.

They're a bit more expensive, but Microline cartridges/styli are worth every penny. They're extremely forgiving when tracking well-used grooves.

The end is just all radio noise with all the orchestra and the chanting mixed so low you can barely hear it. There's also some noises at 1:17 I've never ever heard on any other mix. Sounds like someone really out of breath and panting.
I thought I heard some Beatles mumbling mixed in? Then I was waiting for news reports from December 1980 to fly in but thankfully that didn't happen.

I recovered alot of vocal presence simply by greatly boosting or cutting the 4k. I'll check when I get home. I'll do a deverb as well and see what can be achieved.

Sorry to say - WALRUS is absolutely shite... Day Tripper is a real rock song now - wow. (I dont like the "Day Tripper yeah" that they have twice in the outro while on the original it was only Yeah once - but this was similar on 1+")
