As much as I can understand his thoughts I do wonder if anyone would actually want to remix The Wombles lol?

I have neither the time, not the inclination to read about a person or group(?) that I'm not cognizant of.
However, I can speak in general terms about art, ownership, the weather and thinking small. The internet is only the medium.,,not the message.
In many ways the message is the 'artist'. But it's no longer as simple as that. Property! Ownership! Art! Intellectual! Virtual! Commodity! Market! Analog! Digital! Physical! Public Domain! HD! High Res! Mono! Stereo! Quad! Dolby! 5.1! 6.1! atmos! Almost! Street Date! RSD! Burned! Pressed! Promotional! Not For Sale! FREE! Unreleased! Mail Order! Swap Meet! Speakers! Headphones! REmaster! REmix! REissue! RErinse! REpeat! REheat! RE-EQ! REward! REwind! RE-Up! Counterfeit! Pirate! REturn! ISO! Import! Cut-Out! Bonus Track! Out Of Print! Published! Demo! MFSL! Bricked! Tricked! Expanded! Restored! Compressed! Limited! Ltd. Ed.! ReImagined! Red Book! Alternate! Anniversary! SDE! and, many more...
I haven't ever been a musician because I like listening to music too much. I don't like thieves...but who owns ANY OF IT? Of course the argument used to beg the question "Is it stealing if I would never buy one in the first place"? I don't know anything about separating tracks, etc. Nobody cares about Hotel California or Eagles or what they want. My own theory is that if your music is not being downloaded and remixed for free on the internet right now, then you're already nobody. ASCAP and BMI won't need to collect royalties for any of that material. I wonder if Mike Batt knows that home taping is killing music!
I will close by saying that I have contacted CASIO a few times. I told them that I loved music and wanted to learn to play piano.
I also begged them to bring CASIO up to date by adding a 'PORN' rhythm button between CALYPSO and FUNK and they stopped sending me catalog/brochures! I was going to give them the idea for free! But, I got over it. I formed the KC All-Girl Harmonica Band, instead!

I doubt he destroyed them. I think this was just an elaborate way of getting people to listen to the fact that he doesn't like the Beatles remixes.
I'm not sure I've even heard a Wombles track. I remember them being around as a kid, but I always disliked "men in silly costumes" be it Ronald McDonald, Humphrey B. Bear or Gary Glitter (oh no, hang on, that was just him wasn't it...)

Whatever you do, don't do a search on Youtube for Womble tracks. You'll live to regret it. I always preferred ,The Clangers' anyway.
To be fair to Mike Batt, he did make amends by writing songs and producing/promoting the lovely Katie Melua. And he did write quite a few famous tunes.

Wow, what a coincidence. I have a note on my phone reminding me to check her out after I heard her sing in a movie. Great voice.

I can understand his point. There's also something to be said about ensuring the sounds are up to modern standards in order to keep modern audiences engaged. I really don't care about the remixes for the fabs since they won't change how much I do or don't appreciate a song. My kids though think the remixes don't sound as 'old', which I think is important to keep their relevance for future generations...

I learned of her through her Beatles covers.Lord Reith wrote: ↑Wed Oct 12, 2022 11:09 pmWow, what a coincidence. I have a note on my phone reminding me to check her out after I heard her sing in a movie. Great voice.

The Wombles music is shockingly good for a children's franchise (of any era). I highly recommend listening to their albums.
That said, if Batt really did destroy the master tapes, I'd call that practically evil. Definitely egotistical at least.

He hasn't destroyed master tapes, it's multitracks he's got rid of (If indeed he has them. Tracks belong to Sony). Wombles tracks are well recorded and mixed so I can't see a reason for them to be remixed anyway. Don't think there is a market for Atmos mixes!
