I'm sure this has already been covered, but does anyone have a good and secure recommendation for where to store my Beatle files?
My computer is limited and my portable 2tb Seagate HDD got damaged recently. Fortunately the files were recovered, but I'm now coming to the conclusion that somewhere 'cloudbased' would be a safer alternative.
What do other members do?
Thanks Beatle People.

Re: Where to Store Files?
The secret is maintaining multiple backups!
The cloud is an option, of course. I don't use it for this purpose myself, I have way too many TB's of files (and of dubious nature, such is our hobby), files are too often changing and I don't wish to pay for the service...
Other than that, get more external drives! Spinning drives (as opposed to SSD) are probably best for longevity.
Use one as the "master" (primary) where you do your collecting, editing and organizing work and routinely back it up to a few others (free apps are available that will "top off" your backups without having to copy everything over every time you make a change). Keep one of the drives somewhere offsite (other than your home, like at work).
I don't use the computer itself for any kind of storage.
Hope that helps! And yes, there is a big thread on this topic here somewhere.

Re: Where to Store Files?
Many ways to do it and many opinions
I use an old style - multiple 1TB drives, that get backed up multiple times using robocopy scripts.
I have a cloud option I'm working on, but want the syncs to work a certain way.
I'm a Sr IT Engineer, so you can imagine.
in simple terms though - keep more than just one backup - external and/or cloud.

NOT. Buy 2 drives and make 2 copies of your stuff.RunoutGroove wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 11:08 am but I'm now coming to the conclusion that somewhere 'cloudbased' would be a safer alternative.

Re: Where to Store Files?
Did you hit COSTCO too? I've got the 2 Seagate 8TBs as master/backup, a 5TB as another backup (without videos) and a stack of older computer HDDs I put in a cradle as yet another set of backups.
2 more new 8TBs sit in the closet awaiting their day...
8TB seems to be enough for all my junk if I keep deleting the redundant stuff and flatten the mono's .

Re: Where to Store Files?
You can get those dual-drives which make a clone copy of everything you save, so iuf one of the drives in it fails you've still got the other. But then, if you dropped it on the floor you'd probably lose both!
Two full size hard drives are the go.
Cloud based... well, you could get locked out of your account one day.

All excellent advice. Thanks fellas. if anything, it will make me organize and categorize my Beatle files more coherently, thats a different topic.

Also, people have had their online bootleg collections deleted by the host. Technically, uploading them breaks the T&C.
