A good friend of mine is due to have a long hospital stay and i want to get them a portable mp3/flac player that doesn’t break the bank so I can load it up with good music for them. If it could also play through a hifi amp that would be a bonus.
Can anyone give a recommendation of what is good out there?
Many thanks for any help.

Re: Good portable flac/mp3 player
Look at Shanling or HiBy brand players. Both have small units at decent prices. Reviews are consistently good on both.

I'd be tempted to go for an older android phone. Just get a 64Gb micro SD card for it and load it up with music. You'll get one as cheap as anything on ebay etc. You can use it online for BBC sounds etc as well.

The Fiio X5 is awesome. About the size of an iPod Classic it plays just about all audio formats. It also plays FLAC files in 16 and 24 bit. It also has 2 SD Card slots. I can't imagine one better.

Even if it doesn't you can plug the headphone jack to your aux jack. Can't say enough good things about it.
