Re: Octopus's Garden with guide vocal
Good spotting. It's amazing to have the tools to be able to rescue these very faint vocals.

Re: Octopus's Garden with guide vocal
here's another rescued vocal from the rockband multiracks: Don't Let Me Down (take used for single with restored original vocals)

To improve the sound, I combined the vocals that are present on the Rockband drum track (which ARE the original live vocal before the overdub!) with the extracted vocal from the Nagra source (speed corrected from Day by Day).
I think the result is not so bad.

Re: Octopus's Garden with guide vocal
I don't know about The Beatles, but I know firsthand from studying 6 studio albums of The Doors that all kind of guide vocal phrases can be found. Not always separated, but at least recognized to some degree. Sometimes when the quiet passages are amplified 100 times or even 1000 times. My advice is to study all the relevant releases of a song, the more the better. Say, a stereo mix - as many as possible editions of the said stereo mix. Mono as well, remixes and 5.1, even better. AI can separate from one edition things it does not recognize in other editions. Then there's the task of making sense out of all these data

Thanks. You're absolutely right! I checked it again. Something must have happened when I mixed down the recreated vocal track with the instrumental tracks. Sorry!
Here's an improved version:

I took the opportunity to also mix Billy's organ more upfront, to make it sound closer to the official version.

Fantastic!
Now...can you rescue George's vocals from Mama You Been On My Mind, I Threw It All Away, and Ramblin' Woman?

Thanks for the improvement to "Don't let me Down". That's pretty cool hearing the raw vocal.
So, do we think the January live vocal is part of the final version or was it totally redone in February?
Some bits seem identical but some parts don't. Maybe just Paul's harmony was replaced.
