New Documentary on the Beatles' First US Visit Out on 29 November!

I had kind of been hoping for a miniseries, a bit like get back where we'd have an episode devoted to New York, then another on Washington, then a third on Miami. Possibly with the full Coliseum integrated. Having the action interrupted constantly even by Paul himself is a drag.

I've always reckoned that the Maysles footage is the REAL Hard Day's Night. Much funnier and more exciting. I hope this is at least going to be a couple of hours long and we'll get plenty of that footage, but allowing for interviews with Paul, Ringo and the drips plus excerpts from the performances there probably won't be a lot of time left for new material.

Another thing that worries me is that if this is only 90 min long then it's going to vanish into a sea of 90 min Beatle documentaries on the other streaming platforms. A simple search for "Beatles" on Tubi throws up dozens of these. I can't imagine the average punter will be able to tell them apart when they're browsing through Justwatch or whatever indexing app they use.

My understanding is it's a 2 hour documentary. I too wished for a Get Back style miniseries.. Oh well. As long as we don't get Whoopie Goldberg type talking heads I'll be happy...

The thing that gets to me in most of the rockumentaries made recently is the wanton inclusion of perspectives from folks interviewed today; giving their opinions on things that happened long before they were born. Whoopi was at least tangentially relevant in that she attended the Shea Stadium concert (or so she says.) But when I see fodder like Slash, Taylor Hawkins, Jack White, even Tom Petty, etc, waxing philosophical about the Beatles I get a little bit (OK a lot) pissed off. They have nothing to add except how they like the music. Much better to interview today, or include older interviews from those who passed on, people who actually were there and directly involved.

There's too much of the former,...Kid Rock, Miley Cyrus, Joan Jett, Fred Durst, and what have you, poisoning what could have otherwise been a decent program.

Anyone have an idea of how much footage was actually shot and maybe still exists?

I'm sure it's more than we'll ever get to see.

We know Apple is sitting on lots of unused 1966 and 1967 promo footage.

There's 30 hours I think. But a lot would be not that interesting. But there was the opportunity here to create something akin to a 1964 Get Back miniseries. Instead we're getting Eight Days A Week "Light"

Apple and the Beatles Inc have simply and sadly given us one hell of disappointing year. I guess we can't have a "Get Back" every year; and, God knows we will never get a White Album type deluxe set ever again...... but it's kind of bad when the highlight for the year was a remastered "Let It Be", something that should have come out with "Naked" or the box set at the latest.

I guess the RED and the BLUE were something, but not much - more hype than anything for a technically interesting NOW & THEN, but not really a very good song. I won't even get started on the crap Paul has been pushing off on us... not worth my time..... Where are the "London Town" and "Back To The Egg" box sets? John and George's sets do have me hanging on, but not by a whole lot.

So we will finish the year with another talking head filled documentary. Why couldn't we get the 1964 mini series others here have offered up, or, at the very least, a remastered "First Visit" with some extras?

The Apple is rotting and this fan for one, is tired of picking through the mush looking for any salvageable meat.

Well the footage and sound looks and sounds nice and clean but I don't think I actually saw any film of The Beatles that I haven't seen before

I don’t mind them having opinions but why break away from the footage to show them when a voice over would be good enough.
I’m looking forward to this but expecting to be disappointed.
