Re: John and Yoko Daytime revolution DVD
The blu ray arrived yesterday and I watched this morning.
There isn't really too much to the 'story' (J&Y hosted five 90 minute talk shows, these are some of the highlights), and they do what they can with that footage and talking heads - about one guest per day from the original shows, plus an original producer. I'm guessing most of the people in the original shows are no longer with us. There's a very small amount of news content from the days in question, but if it wasn't there, you wouldn't miss it.
The upscaling looks pretty good - although they use an interesting style, in that the faces of people talking look pin sharp but much of the rest of the screen is slightly fuzzy. The film is all panned and scanned into 16:9 but, curiously, the 3 extra full musical performances are shown in the original 4:3, fully upscaled.
Somewhat frustratingly, Memphis Tennessee is shown in full in both the film, and the extras, but no Johnny B Goode at all. The only other full song in the film is Imagine, although you do get most of Yellow Pearl's 'We Are The Children' and Vivian Reed's 'His Arm Is On The Sparrow'.
At the very beginning, there's around 30 seconds of Attica State from the Apollo, in excellent colour quality.
I'd say more of a TV documentary than a feature film. If you don't want to spend 7 hours watching the original shows (which I cannot believe of anyone here!), this is the next best thing.
