Yeah, I will buy 'em some day. I've only got the CDs. I have the unique Mexican LPs and the albums from 'Sgt. Pepper's' to 'Let It Be' (also early Mexican pressings. I do have a 90s White Album though).

Harry Moss, yes. There were more vinyl pressings throughout the 80s and 90s (unsure if those had the remixes of 'RS' and 'Help!, and iirc they're "digital-sourced"), but Harry Moss's cuts are regarded as being the best. Also, George Martin only remixed the aforementioned 'RS' and 'Help!'. The first four CDs are not remixes, they're just the normal mono mixes from the 60s (not the best transfers, of course).

I meant Harry Moss, the man who cut all their vinyl up until the 1987 reissues. The original blue boxes were made up of whatever was left in the warehouses so tended to be a higgledy piggledy of valve and transistor cuts from all eras. Eventually after all the backlog was used up they began using new pressings for the blue box. harry's last set of cuts were in 1984 so a blue box from that year or any point up to 1987 is likely to contain those cuts.

Anyway, here is an A-B comparison I made. It has three extracts from the Hard day's Night album (A Hard Day's Night, Anytime At All and You can't Do That). Track A uses the 2012 vinyl issues (supposedly unlimited) and Track B uses the 1984 cut. By muting one track in audacity you can then use the "solo" button to quickly A-B between the two.

You'll notice that the 2012 is narrower, but bizarely also leans to the left like all the 2009 remasters. I believe they did this to make the rhythm track louder, but it skews the vocals off centre. You'll also clearly notice that the bass is goosed: not only is it louder and more in your face, it is also far more towards the centre.

Call me mad, but even though the 1984 is a little less "loud" for want of a better word, it just sounds so much better to me.

Just by the opening chord alone, the 1984 wins, and I much prefer the spacing and sound of the vocals in it.

Also, the 2012 seems to have slightly (?) more bass than the 2009s, but it seems clearer than them... I don't know if I'd call it an improvement, but I guess I'd pick the 2012 vinyl before the 2009 CDs if I were given a choice between those two.

Thanks, in my collection I have these tracks as sourced from "1965 UK EP, PBTHAL" (so then a vinyl rip) and 1992 UK EP CD Collection, mono-CDBEP14.

Where are yours from? Maybe the UK EP CD?

Is this from a personal rip of your 1984 box or somebody else's release? I agree, it sounds really nice.
