Also I believe that if you download the images (rather than screenshotting) the boxes won't be there.MP3J wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 2:29 pmah! thanks i didn't see thatalphabeatles wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 2:19 pmGreat finds!
BTW, there is an option to remove the blue boxes (un-highlight the search terms with the little button near the upper right of each page).

You can find a lot of them here. https://www.worldradiohistory.com/Disc.htmLord Reith wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 5:26 am Wow, keep posting anything you find.
I would love to see all the Beatles articles from Disc and NME and all those UK trade newspapers one day.
I have some great high-quality scans of Disc I will share that I pulled from a now-defunct website.

Re: FREE BEATLES NEWSPAPER SEARCH!
Here's an interesting article that is probably describing the Quarrymen.
The wikipedia article speaks about how another skiffle group won through, despite John arguing with the organisers. he told them he'd brought a whole bus load of supporters and so should have won.
EDIT: Actually I misread. The "Sunnyside Skiffle Group" from Wales seem to have brought a busload of supporters with them, and this was what the argument was about. The tale seems to be that the Quarrymen narrowly missed out on the win via clap-o-meter due to the bus of ring ins

Another couple that may be of interest:
An advertisement 5th Jan 1961 for both the Aintree institute and the Litherland Town Hall.
The famous Litherland Town Hall gig where they were billed as "Direct from Hamburg" was Dec 27th, but in this ad, they are still advertised as from Hamburg for the Aintree Institute:
And from the end of the year, 11 Nov, a gig at Hambledon hall where they each suddenly have swinging nicknames - The Singing Rage, The Rockin' Riot, The Sheik of Araby and The Bashful Beat!

And here's an interesting review by "Disker" of "My Bonnie" from the Liverpool Echo - 13 Jan 1962.
They're described as "a group of Liverpool Instrumentalists" and although they are said to be exciting, Disker doesn't think they'll do well in the charts playing such familiar numbers. He says : " ... I would feel more confident about their chances if completely new material had been found for them to put on disc."
How right he was.
