Poor Terry got thrown under the bus rather unfairly by George. He was a great producer and did a terrific job on Pop Go The Beatles.

RIP Terry, you just made it in time. ;)

The Pop Go The Beatles shows he recorded sound incredible. He was recording them as if he was recording a jazz band - capturing clearly what was sounding in the studio.

Unfortunately it was 1963 when all the pop musicians were still contaminated by the malodorous stench of Phil Spector - witness the Rolling Stones' recordings from that period, when the songs recorded at Chess in Chicago sound very clear, while the ones recorded at RCA in Hollywood are a thick goo of murk. Powerful sounding murk, but murk.

It would have been a major undertaking to do that show. It needed selection and planning of guest artists, sequencing, editing etc. I imagine it would have been quite stressful, that sense of "what are we recording at this session and are we going to get it all in the can in two hours?"
