I cam across this while reviewing my Blues collection: Charlie Jackson - Long Gone Lost John (1928)

I think this is what John Lennon was covering during the POB sessions:

Charlie Jackson's blues tune was surely a forerunner, but I'd bet that John, as a big skiffle fan, was more familiar with Lonnie Donnegan's song ( a hit in the UK):
