How to keep an audio track a constant speed/pitch?

Post by murrays15 »

Hello tech people,

I have an old audio tape that was recorded using a battery operated recorder with dying batteries. So upon playback the audio gets slower and slower.

My question, is there a plug in for Audacity or app I can download that can dial-in the pitch and BPM and process the track to keep the speed constant throughout the recording?

if you don't want to spend the money, there is also a - free- python programme, pyrespeeder.
But you have to be rather comfortable with Python to get it running.

Unfortunately it's out of the ability of lay people.

I'd love to iron out the horrible wow and flutter on the 1965 "Help!" and "Rubber Soul" album masters because they sound like mangled cassettes to me but I can't do Python.

Thank you, I will take a look at this program. I transferred an old 3" reel to reel tape and the recorder used had dying batteries. Hopefully I can get this back to a constant speed and pitch.

Murray, Engonoceras, if you have tracks you would like de-wowed, I'm quite willing to give it a try on my machine.
Just post the tracks or PM me.

I'm a bit reluctant to do all of Help! and Rubber Soul, perhaps you can be more specific about which release you are worried about and where you hear the wow/flutter most prominently?

The Barrett tape stuff is from cassettes which are very wobbly.
