When did John begin using his granny specs?

Crikey that newspaper photo is incredible. It's like he jumps from 1966 to the seventies John in one day.

I think those glasses certainly made him look older. They weren't called "granny" glasses for nothing. In Let It Be he looks ten years older than the rest of them.

From visit last Sept to the Best family Liverpool Beatles Museum on Matthew Street. Suggests the granny glasses started as early as the Casbah:

Isn't the story that he painted the Casbah ceiling with the wrong paint because he wasn't wearing his glasses?

I dunno about you, but if I was painting the ceiling, I would take OFF my glasses in case paint dripped on them. So why would he wear granny Best's specs? And last time I tried using someone else's glasses, they don't actually work. That's why we have prescriptions.

On further thought, I reckon this is just more Best Bullshit, like Mo betting all her money on the derby to buy the house, or John and Pete photographing Cavern girls naked after the shows.
