Re: Red & Blue Albums
Overall I'm very pleased with what I've heard so far. I've always seen 1962-66 and 1967-70 as a great entry into the music of The Beatles and I think this incarnation will serve the same purpose for a new generation.
I'm all in for adding some new tracks seeing as we're no longer restricted by how much you can fit onto an album. Of course I would probably have swapped some of the 'new' tracks and maybe even a handful of the original ones too but that's life, we all have our favourites.
The MAL technology has worked great on some tracks (I love "I Saw Her Standing There') and shown their inexperience on others "She Loves You" predictably enough, they really could have sought out some advice from some people on this forum when it comes to making the most of the extractions.
Sometimes they have just taken too many liberties ('I Am The Walrus' pretty obviously) but I think the sets are aimed at people who probably won't even notice the changes. Overall I've really enjoyed listening to the collections although I haven't quite heard it all yet.

Could not disagree more! These are now the only go to mixes of these classics in my also non-professional opinion!Rickenbacker325 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 2:38 pm There is a key word in these discussions…”team”…there are definitely way too many people involved in the remixes…and what we end up getting are so many inconsistencies between songs. Too many hands in the pot here…and everyone is mixing so it’ll sound “good” on earbuds or phone speakers.
Has anyone listened to I Saw Her Standing There?? It sounds like an AM radio and the drums are so loud that one would think that the rest of the Beatles were sidemen to Ringo…
I get it…people have different tastes and hear things differently…but these are the worst of the remixes up til now in my non-professional opinion. There are ZERO “go-to” mixes here

I think it's a mistake to try to improve the original Beatles sound to make it more modern and accessible to the new canons of the new generations, but the new generations don't demand sound quality, they don't care. They want something they like and that's it. They have a less sophisticated taste. I don't understand this eagerness to distort what was done in the 60s. This is not classical music, where each performer does what he wants with an original score. It's one thing to clean up the sound and another thing to do and undo whatever you want. Raising the level of instruments or lowering them is a total farce. The version he did of Beatles 1 for the blu ray is really bad, really bad. More love and respect is being shown for the Beatles by director Peter Jackson. Because he is a fan.

Perhaps if they didn't try to do something new it would have been harder for them to promote and sell them all over again? Perhaps a new audience will get into The Beatles via this set ( It was my first real introduction to them in the early 70's) and then discover the original mixes? Sometimes you need a bit of hype to attract a new audience.Help67 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 2:58 pm I think it's a mistake to try to improve the original Beatles sound to make it more modern and accessible to the new canons of the new generations, but the new generations don't demand sound quality, they don't care. Sound like a drop out in You Really Got A Hold On Me when Johns sings I love you at 2:23...
