Video of presenter Lee Peters

Post by Lord Reith »

Rather than use one of the BBC's staff announcers to host Pop Go The Beatles, producer Terry Henebery brought in actor Lee Peters (who at the time was playing David Owen in The Dales). Probably he thought that Peters' background as a comedian would make him a good foil for The Beatles. As it turned out they didn't hit it off too well, with The Beatles referring to him variously as "Mother" and "Pee Litres".

After Pop Go The Beatles had finished its first series, Lee was replaced by former childrens tv actor Rodney Burke (whom I posted a video of recently) and Lee eventually left radio and managed to get a few bit parts in British films in the 60s and early 70s, including Witchfinder General with Vincent Price. Here is some footage of him I found in the 1973 film Assassin.

Anyway, I thought people might like to see a face to put to the name. He is the guy with the striped blue tie...
