CCR Royal Albert Hall Video To Be Officially Released

Post by Ziggy C »

(Oopsies! Thanks, Megazeti!)

September 18th sees the official release, finally, of Clarence Clamwater Revival's famous Royal Albert Hall Concert from April, 1970.
The complete concert is remixed by, wait for it,,......Giles Martin!

The concert and video have been available as bootlegs forever. So it's about time to get them out in hopefully the best sight & sound available.

Clarence Clamwater is how Mama Cass introduces the band as they lip-synch their way through Night Time Is The Right Time on Music Scene in 1970.
No guitar chords. All lead and background Vox are John Fogerty...but still a nicely mimed performance.

I am looking forward to this one. Now I'll be able to replace my bootleg copies of this...or at least put them away as they will still likely be unique from this version.

The deluxe set includes a documentary....

"Travelin’ Band culminates with the band’s show at the Royal Albert Hall—marking the only concert footage of the original CCR lineup to be released in its entirety."

Hopefully entirety means just that. But I wouldn't be surprised if it were hacked somewhat. Hopefully it plays straight through and isn't split up or truncated by interview segments. I can just picture Born On The Bayou doing a hard cut to.....Slash talking about how he was so heavily inspired by the song. Or Linda Perry crowing about some other song. Or Kid Rock blathering about something or other about their rustic attire that inspired his "music."
....or any of the other usual characters that seem to be annoyingly turning up in these documentaries, even though they had nothing to do with anything, and in some cases were just a smudge in their daddy's drawers at the time this music was created.

That Royal Albert Hall show is a favorite. I still remember watching the original broadcast on local TV in 1970. I loved that bright red Rickenbacker . . .

I’ve had multiple versions of this show for ages. So, looking forward to the upgrade.

another thing I always found interesting is that fogarty used a fairly open stance pretty similar to Lennon.

There was a CCR special on TV in 1970 or 1971. It was a documentary about a concert at Oakland Coliseum w/ Booker T & The MGs as support.
Apart from the jam session at 'Cosmo's Factory' and Time Is Tight...the rest of the show sounds very identical to the Albert Hall LIVE album. Even the banter sounds identical. The sound is pretty average with no bass or rhythm guitar being audible. John Fogerty is always note perfect and Clifford's drums are almost discernable but, I hope Giles is going to perform some kind of magic. It wouldn't take much for a decent show to finally receive its due. I only hope that if it's atmos mixing that's waiting for us that there will be something new to distinguish the shows as separate events!
I was wondering if John C. had done some kind of razzle dazzle to oblige his contractual demands. Weren't they a three piece unit by the time the UK got to see them?
Oh well, the Woodstock Album (OST 3-LP) could have been much more than it was had there been a side of CCR's set!
I didn't realize until recently, that John Fogerty was a shipping clerk at Fantasy Records when Saul Zaentz signed the quartet of high school chums!
And, it was Creedence money that allowed Saul to capitalize on One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest!
Bittersweet, and swampy.
Giles...beware the HooDoo!
