Are you downloading from Github? Should be very simple. You simply open Terminal on the Mac and type in what it says. The install is pretty much automatic. Then it only requires a single line of text to demix a song.

And for separate lead vocals from backing vocals, what's the best extractor?

UVR has one but the results are unpredictable. More educational than actually useful.
