7-zip

call me paranoid, but there's so many sites out there offering this, including an official one, that if anyone can tell me where YOU safely downloaded it?

Thanks in advance. I had it on another computer that went kerplutz.

Thanks! Like I said, I'm paranoid...even of 'official' sites sometimes (that site seemed a little too simplistic).

The original site is safe. I'm very dubious of those sites where they have EVERYTHING. I always look for the original source.

Places like https://www.zdnet.com/ will always have safe download links.

I use winRAR usually as it can remember passwords to archives. I note it claims to be more efficient at compressing that winRAR which is good but if I swap to it will it do the remembering passwords thing? Saves a lot of time when unpacking Pbthal rips for instance.

I've encountered lots of archive files which could be opened with 7-zip and nothing else. One can have both on the machine.

I went home last night and powered up my laptop. I have just that, both on that machine.

It's doesn't remember passwords, I remember now that's why I don't use it. But I will keep both for the situations you describe.
