I use a really old version of TMPGEnc DVD author. If I have a DVD that has several 1GB vob files, when I import that from the DVD it copies it as one large mpg file (without skips) onto my hard drive. I often use it just to extract a file, I don't want to do any actual authoring so once I have the file I close the program.

Oh yeah you can use DVD Shrink too with the split vob files setting switched off.
