Question : Re the Nagra tapes.
Has anybody done a book about the history of the Nagra tapes and how they were stolen
Also eventually found and discovered by the police.
Wondering if all of them were recovered or are " We " still missing tapes.
I know Doug has written a book about the tapes ( Sorry I forgot the title )
and wondered if it has been updated ????
Thanks
Greg

Re: Question - Re the Nagra tapes.
According to the nearly 4 Hour Video of Peter Jackson, stated 40 Nagra Tapes are still missing
You have to listen to the whole Interview...
He thinks 7 hours of audio could still be missing, & not bootlegged

Re: Question - Re the Nagra tapes.
They were stolen by an Apple employee in 1971, who said that he asked if anybody wanted them and they said "no". Given the way stuff was discarded without any thought in those days, that is entirely plausible. In fact it's well possible that by "stealing" them he was actually saving them! If only someone had done the same with the BBC's tapes.
Apple found they didn't have them when they tackled anthology and realised they'd have to use the boots to add the sound to the mute film. They must have used Day By Day. PJ says they "bought all the get back boots they could find". Then in the early 2000s the Dutch guy who had bought the tapes off the employee tried to sell them on but was lured into a sting by Interpol and they siezed them. There was a court case but I don't think he did jail time. Later he tried unsuccesfully to sue for their return.
