I figured out what caused my problem with Vol. 2. I had accidentally activated the Loudness feature in my streaming software. In addition to squashing the dynamics, it also messes up the EQ. After deactivating it, Vol. 2 sounds gorgeous throughout. Sorry for the confusion.

Garrett's remaster sounds really close to my circa 1986 blue box needledrop. The only detectable difference between the two is the length of the pauses between tracks. I think I'll add 3 extra seconds of silence at the end of each track for that authentic LP experience. :D

Thank you, Rupert!
If there's any science to record production it's undoubtedly about sequencing the songs to maximize appeal.
That means if you have a number one single opening the album, then put the next best song at the beginning of side two. In the case of Meet The Beatles, if the first side plays through, then it will get turned over and WHAMMO!!! Don't Bother Me is the real best song on the LP. As Rupert mentioned, the guitar sound of the strumming is ultra Beatle and it is catchy enough to let the melody infect the physical, mental and emotional willingly. So, George Harrison got noticed by Dave Dexter, Jr(?) which is much better than honorable mention!
