BEATLES - Sweden 1963 TV Show (2023 STEREO MIX)

Here’s another totally live mono BEATLES television performance I’ve remixed into STEREO - it’s Sweden's popular weekly music programme “Drop In” filmed 30th October 1963.

Background on the show
Having completed a five-night concert tour of Sweden, the Beatles returned to Stockholm to record an appearance on the popular Swedish television show “Drop In”. The TV recording took place at the small Arena Theatre in Stockholm’s ‘Gröna Lund’ Amusement Park. The Beatles had arrived for camera rehearsals in the afternoon before taking lunch at a restaurant in nearby Solliden, where they were joined by Mal Evans, Neil Aspinall, TV show producer Klas Burling, presenter Kersti Adams-Ray, and some photographers (John & Paul are said to have played the piano in the restaurant). Before filming began at 7pm, Paul & Ringo went shopping - in producer Burling’s car - to Stockholm’s largest department store “NK” where Paul bought perfume for his girlfriend Jane Asher. After their nine minute closing set concluded with ‘Long Tall Sally’ (which would get a studio recording at EMI Abbey Road the following March) the group joined in with handclaps and chants for the “Drop In” theme as programme credits rolled. The boys were then driven back to Stockholm’s Continental Hotel in a police car before flying home to London the next day.

Despite occasional technical problems of distorted and unbalanced microphones, the fab four’s energy clearly delighted their audience seated on the same level just inches away from Liverpool’s finest. The group were originally booked to perform a couple of songs but ended up doing two blistering encores as well!

The show was broadcast on Swedish TV on Sunday 3rd November 1963. I’ve rebalanced and cleaned up the sound, then remixed it into stereo for a more immersive and powerful experience.
