Thanks, I had a chance to listen to these. Without checking I'm not sure if you're the one with the 1972 R2R deck but these tracks sound the same (tinny "stereo AM").
Please compare yours to these same stereo tracks from various versions of Y&T in my collection (LPs and R2Rs) as offered up by various members:

I suspect the deck, not the source material, is causing the lo-fi sound.
