Beatles - Long Lost George
White Album 50th extractions and isolations
All outfakes derived from the new Deluxe set

This set is about 3 years old from when the WA Deluxe came out. A mixed bag, some good, some probably boring, some already have better versions available like John's guide vocal on Glass Onion by csnyfan. But hopefully a few interesting things here.

1-3. Martha My Dear - The guitar part of Martha My Dear has always been kind of a holy grail with me because I could never get a decent isolation of it. I didn't even know it was George until a week or two ago, always thought it was Paul doing this song solo. Anyhow on the new box they gave us a basic take of Martha on disc 6 where it was possible to finally get that guitar and hear what the heck George is playing.

So 1) George & Ringo (long gap at the beginning before they come in), then 2) Paul's piano, then 3) the piano track compressed where you can hear some of the horns in the background. They're playing live with the horn section. Who knew... There's the photo in the new book that confirms it & actually prompted trying to see if the horns could be heard on the piano track, to verify, and there they are. Might be some guide vocal there too.

4. Martha My Dear - Compressing the crap out of the guitar/drums track also brings out the horns in the background, as well as something cool at the beginning, although it kind of destroys it in the process, but if we can hear something extra... Anyhow here's that one: Paul guide vocal in the intro.

5. Cry Baby Cry - Harmonium, bass, extra piano(?), whatever the heck that is in the 2nd verse (harmonium again probably), harmony vocal, a couple lead guitar riffs. This stuff (except bass) might all be on one track of the 4-track, although Giles is panning stuff around a little bit, or using ADT a bit too much.

6. Dear Prudence - John on acoustic guitar, who knew? With some low-volume vocal mixed in (not by me - it comes out that way in the process) which has a bit of distortion on it unfortunately. Once the drums come in it's fine. That undocumented acoustic guitar is there in the backing behind John's vocal, as is the original drum track which you can hear come in just before the drum overdub. Now, it could be John on Casino since it's a hollow-body and you will get sound out of it, but I have several and un-amped they don't sound like this.

What's more weird is the piano and flugelhorn are also here, just like on the rockband drums mogg. Why? Are they on the same track with the drums? Wtf... Bounced together? Most likely. Performed together? Nah. If they're not on the same track, why did Giles include them? Must be a bounce.

What's even weirder than that is the ending after the last cymbal. Acoustic guitar is heard again in the fade, then a bit of 2 extra guitars over the top of that. John picking and George hitting that single note? John hits a wrong note that sounds really good, almost changing it to a minor key (?). After that bit it cuts out and then we hear the ending of one of John's electric guitar overdubs which was on this track but erased by the drum overdub (after the guitar had been bounced with another guitar to another track).

7. Long Long Long from the left channel of the stereo mix. What on earth is that sound at 0:30? Low note on organ? The wine bottle vibrating... Sounds like Paul singing "how I love me" at 1:01...

8. Obladi-Oblada, from the LFE, just drums and piano.

9. Helter Skelter in wider stereo with the track 1 instruments left, track 4 lead vocal right.

10. Helter Skelter take 17 oopsed, completely removes the vocal (not sure why you'd want to though!)

11. Back in the USSR from take 5, the first rhythm track with George on drums (snare), Paul on guitar and John on bass. "I've been wonderful on the last two takes!" George says. Correct speed.

12. Yer Blues take 5 with the guitar overdubs removed, original ending restored.

13. Martha My Dear featuring the 2nd vocal, extracted from the 5.1 mix (different from the other vocal from the outtakes disc).

14. Dear Prudence guitars from the outtakes version.

15. Honey Pie, best guitar isolation, the best I could do to get the guitar track. Giles has his dad's stuff mixed way too high in all the songs IMO. This is from the outtakes disc.

16. I'm So Tired take 14 overdubs of vocals, drums, guitar and organ.

17. John's guide vocal for Glass Onion, from the front right channel of the 5.1 mix, with acoustic, snare, tambourine & piano.

18. Piggies from the 5.1 front right channel, George's guitar comes through pretty good in this one.

19. Don't Pass Me By with single-tracked vocal & only one drum track.

20. Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey in the front left channel, I labeled it "guide" vocal because John must be singing live, and after comparing I don't think it's one of the two regular overdubbed lead vocals, he starts to lose his voice a couple times and I don't hear that in the other two. Might be wrong but I think this is another "new" unheard vocal.

21. Cry Baby Cry from the front left channel, another good one, it has the 2nd drum track with the snare hits that's buried in the original mixes, + bass and some of the harmony vocal.

22. Good Night take 10, just the guitar. So good...

23. Good Night the vocals, with a bit of guitar mixed in to avoid distortion.

Disc 2

1. Birthday, John's guitar from the front channels of the surround mix.

2. Better louder version of the Glass Onion guide vocal, you can hear John mess up the lyric in the 2nd chorus and sort of laugh while singing "yeah... yeah... glass onion." The 3rd verse it sounds like Yoko's voice(?) on the beginning of the 2nd line and "looking through a hole in the ocean" instead of "fixing..."

3. Another attempt at the Me and My Monkey "guide" vocal, a little bit rougher but the vocal is louder as well as some new bits at the very end. Too much cowbell but couldn't do anything about that.

4. Obladi Oblada take 3 in the left channel is the instrumental track plus what sounds like a live or guide vocal, I don't think it's one of the two overdubbed lvs.

5. Birthday take 2 has a sort of "guide" vocal way in the background, although it's more or less just hollering, kinda funny. Here's an attempt to bring up that vocal. The file is somewhat thrashed but you can hear most of what Paul is "singing."

6. Julia rehearsals in a wide stereo mix, from a couple of oopses.

7. Dear Prudence with stereo vocals, this is another one that's a little bit thrashed in the right channel after multiple oopses & some other stuff. In the middle 8 there are some low "round round" vocals, not sure where those are coming from, they might just be part of the regular backing vocals but maybe not.

8. Martha My Dear - Paul solo vocal from the sessions disc.

9. Martha My Dear - Mixdown from the surround mix with stereo vocals.

10. Savoy Truffle - Another 6 channel mixdown.

11. Savoy Truffle - 6 channel mixdown with vocals - both mixes reduce the horns as much as possible.

12. The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill - vocal overdub from the front channels of the surround mix.

13. Julia - solo guitar from the front channels of the surround mix.

14. Sexy Sadie - piano and guitar from the front channels of the surround mix.

15. Helter Skelter - backing vocals from the rear channels of the surround mix.

16. Helter Skelter - 2nd backing vocals with Ringo from the rear channels.

17. Yer Blues - John's guitar up in the mix, from the surround mix.

18. Honey Pie - 6 channel mixdown, again trying to reduce the overloud GM contribution.

19. Revolution 1 - take 18, the backing track + John's first vocal.

20. Revolution 1 - bass overdub + John's 2nd vocal.
