'first couple of shots'

The first screencapture taken from inside the bus looking backwards (you can see a headrest): looks like Romanroad Taunton?

second picture is a 'screenshot' from Fish and Chips, slate 50 take 1 & 2.

Fl - that's a great spot, yes I reckon it's definitely Taunton.
Doug - I spent ages looking at that sign and couldn't see "ice cream"🙂
I suppose the brief glimpse of Taunton at the start of the footage doesn't tell us anything about the whereabouts of Moorlands Cafe, the outtakes seem to be chronologically random.

Yes, that's the RAC box in question, which are marked with an R on the 55-61 OS map. Most can be ruled out based on location, but there is one on the old OS map which looks like a possibility when comparing to Google maps. I'll look again tomorrow. On the footage there's a junction very shortly before the RAC box but I couldn't decide if it looked like a road or a farm track.

On the return journey if they had gone North East from Bodmin (on A30 towards Launceston) they would have eventually passed a RAC box around here:

If they had returned the same way they would have passed RAC boxes here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@50.4571987 ... 312!8i6656

And here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@50.4075392 ... 312!8i6656

I'm leaning towards the first one. There are a few others but I've ruled them out based on the lay of the land on the old OS map and Google maps.

In 04 you can spot throug the window some 'antennas' perhaps RAF St Eval Radio Station? 03 ends with a 'fly over by':The AVRO Shackleton's from the RAF St Mawgan airfield; my gues some footage is used in the I'm the Walrus clip.

At the begining of 06 (shot of Lennon on bus) you can see "The Smuggler's Chest, Post Cards" reflected in the bus window. A Google search throws up a 1960's post card for sale on eBay with The Smuggler's Chest, Newquay as the manufacturer. So central Newquay for that shot.

You're right about the Smuggles it looks like it the same loction as:

The hotel on East Street, Newquay (where the bus is parked with a crowd gathering)

Throug the window you can read E. Huxtable & Son, could not find an exact location but The Victoria Parade is on the otherside.

Great spot and find with E. Huxtable & Son.

Another location that is either of two is at 2.11 on 04. They go over a level crossing which must be either here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@50.3985678 ... 312!8i6656

or here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@50.4041931 ... 312!8i6656

All the other rail crossings are either bridges or narrow single lane roads.

Still can't fathom the original Reel Streets screen shot I was looking. Anyone think it could be Rickmansworth coming in from London Road (which has been re-routed since the 1960's)? It's either somewhere that's a shortish drive from West Malling or Hayes where the fill in shots were done (I only just realised, even though it's written on the Bus, that the Bus Company was in Hayes).

Looks like it's the first spot: a white fence with the right angle towards the road and the railroad track, then the electric cabinets and the electric pole. And the rails see from inside the bus. To me this isn't possible in the second spot.

Besides do you think you good give a gues about the route back on the 15th? Did they pass Exeter on the route to Taunton?
So Newquay, Bodmin, Okehampton, Exeter?

And for your original question; is the location also on film? According to Neal Aspinall they made addissional shots after the trip so not all the shots are from Cornwall and Devon so perhaps made on the trip to West Malling.

(And they have defintely shot the arrivall of the bus ; in the first shot of the Bus it is not even painted with 'Magical Mystery Tour' perhap Hayes?)
