The Moorlands footage could be from the 14th, but not the 12th. The group lunch footage from the 14th shows Slate 36, while the "yes, Mr. Bloodvessel!" footage on the bus is 46, the Moorlands stop is 47 and the fish 'n' chips shop is 50. I put the bus and Moorlands footage before the fish 'n' chips shop, since they didn't seem to be doing much else except driving home that morning, and the lunch did start a little late (4:00 PM according to Lewisohn) for them to be doing much afterward, but it could very well be from the 14th.

I looked on Getty and couldn't find the Moorlands stills. Can you link to them? Do they give any kind of clue as to what time of day it might be?

There's 2 photos on this gallery - Nice to see Paul with a ciggie next to the "No Smoking" sign! :

Seems to be daylight so the 15th makes sense. The high generation quality of the film footage can misleading, and often looks like sunset time of day.

Might have to have a good look at the "Yes Mr Bloodvessel" slate 46 footage.

Thanks... just a thought... could they have stopped there on the 12th on their way out and again on the 15th on their way back? Or did they take a different route?

Perhaps two locations or both sides of the road, I mean BP and Esso? (Almost like The Beatles and Stones)

Is the footage facing Bloodvessel at the front of the bus also slate 46? (I can't make it out), if so it's just after midday according to the clock behind him, which would make it the 15th.
The opposing shot of the passengers answering him, which is definitely slate 46, shows them passing a blue RAC box (breakdown services) which are marked on old OS map with an 'R', and were few and far between so we might be able to find that, then narrow down the Moorlands search based on that.
They would have taken the same route both ways between Newquay and Bodmin. On the way back it would make sense for them to have gone North East at Bodmin towards Exeter then onto Taunton.
I'm now thinking Moorlands garage was between Bodmin and Taunton

Still struggling with the location of Moorlands Garage & Cafe.

There's same photos or films stills? from 'The Swan' in this gallery:

The RAC is a T on the OS 10 mile, Roads, 1956 and ( T ) after the road number on OS One Inch 7th series, 1955-61. By using the swipe on modus you can find rather easy the 1961 boxes on the map.

(if any use... )

Thanks fl.

I'll have a look tomorrow. Yes the 55-61 map is the best one.

Are you sure about the T? I thought that could be any telephone box. The RAC breakdown boxes (blue in colour) were fewer than the AA breakdown boxes (black) hence there being only about 6 or so in the relevant area on the 55-61 map.

I was looking at the 45 mins of outtakes on YouTube and there's a section of footage showing what looks like a water tower in the background. Possibly at what is now Newquay airport (RAF St Mawgan at the time)

I might have to take a break from this shortly as I'm looking at these maps far too much🙂
