This is such an interesting show. A crowd of young boys instead of girls. They can hear themselves. John looks as much like his Beatle cartoon self as he ever would.
The set list has dropped the early Beatlemania hits entirely - no She Loves You, I Want to Hold Your Hand or Please Please Me. No I Saw Her Standing There. They focus mostly on Hard Days Night and Beatles for Sale.
But they keep four Cavern songs (two of which are, admittedly, on their latest LP). Songs they could play if they were deaf and in the dark. And I Wanna Be Your Man somehow survives (and John and Paul really enjoy it).
And they do Ticket to Ride. It feels like a glimpse into the future, this next-stage single from a yet to be released movie.
It’s a great show, up to Long Tall Sally, where Paul’s voice deserts him. That didn’t used to happen much.
