Re: LIVE IN MIAMI (deluxe version)
It is possible I guess that the Miami broadcast was recorded onto videotape in New York via landline and that is why the audio is so poor. I have heard an off air line recording from 1964 and it also has nothing above 4khz. The rehearsal must have been taped in Miami obviously so that they could watch it back. They mightn't have taped the broadcast in Miami so that CBS in New York could record the live broadcasts and then stagger the playback across the different timezones in the US. That's my quack theory anyway! The same thing happened with the BBC radio broadcasts in the UK: they were usually made from London and then by the time they got to the far north over landline the frequency response was down from 15khz to 7khz.EdinSc wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 4:25 pm Much appreciated! I've spent a lot of time trying to improve the audio of the Miami broadcast, but as you are aware sources are lacking the higher frequencies. Ironically, the audio of the rehearsal is far superior! What sources did you use for the Miami broadcast? I've used the legit Sullivan remaster, because the bootlegs all seem too hissy. Also, how could the network screw up the second part of the broadcast, badly, with the levels on "I Saw Her Standing There." ?
The situation with the uncooperative microphone stands just shows what troupers The Beatles were. John turns the whole thing into a joke and then it becomes funny. Another act might have been thrown completely by that and screwed up the performance. But for The Beatles it was water off a duck's back.
