I am attempting to organize the contents of my hard drive and was wondering how you folks organize the various files on your drives. Ideally, the organization method will make it easy to locate files quickly and not be too burdensome to manage.
I was thinking of the following:
Official releases - Folders for every official album, EP and single
Beatlegs - Folder for each publisher then subfolders for each album or compilation
Remixes - Folder for each remixer then subfolders
Vinyl Rips - Folder for each ripper then subfolders
I welcome and thank you for your suggestions and comments.
Peace!

I'm a but nuts I guess as I'm always tinkering with how I organIze things. The UX architect in me knows the listen to the user (me) and organize it to best suit how I use the data. My online archive is organized thus:
00 Official
01 Studio
02 Vintage (rips)
03 Live
04 LR
05 Misc
06 Video
07 Bootlegzone projects
08 Documents
09 Radio and TV
10 Solo
11 Apple Artists
12 Masterjedi
13 HMC
14 FAB!
15 Audiophile
I put some of the things I like best (Lord R, Masterjedi) at the top level because that's my favorite stuff. Again, maybe not logical for all, but what works for me. I don't organize any deeper that this typically. Eventually I may drop down a level and build some standard.
I will be paying attention to this thread because I'm in the process of organizing my bootlegs currently and want to see how others are doing it.
In case anyone cares... For the officially released stuff each album/single/ep folder is labeled "Beatles, The - yyyy-mm-dd - Title [Info]"
(Example: Beatles, The - 1963-11-22 - With The Beatles [2009 Mono Remaster])
I'm doing this to stay consistent with my wider collection of music where I do "Artist - yyyy - Title" (since most artists aren't releasing multiple titles per year - if they do, I do yyyy-mm).
If I may, I would like to share a Windows application that may be useful to many of you with large file collections.
The application is called Snap2HTML from rlvision (I'm not sure if linking to the site is allowed). It is open sourced and portable Basically, the app scans the drive or folder that you select. It creates an HTML file listing of your folders, subfolders and files that you can search rather quickly. I may not be explaining it well, but if you PM me, I can send you a sample listing.
I have each album in a separate folder with the year and month of release at the beginning of the folder name so it sorts chronological.
1964-07 A Hard Day's Night
1964-12 Beatles For Sale
1964-12 single
1965-08 Help!
... and so on
The big exception I make is that I place "Let it Be" BEFORE "Abbey Road". I also place "Yellow Submarine" between "Magical Mystery Tour" and the "White Album" because it makes much more sense given the recording dates.
1967-06 Sgt Pepper's LHCB (remixes)
1967-12 Magical Mystery Tour
1967c - Yellow Submarine
1968-03 single
1968-08 single
1968-11 White Album 1
1968-11 White Album 2
1969-01 Let It Be
1969-04 single
1969-05 single
1969-08 Abbey Road (2009 remasters)
1969-08 Abbey Road (remixes)
As far as everything else I have separate folders of Bootlegs, Remixes, videos, BBC, live recordings. I have Lord Reith's projects in a dedicated folder because they deserve it.
