Last weekend, 'Find My Past' (the ancestry website) offered full free access for a limited time. Having researched my family tree recently, I did a few searches on my ancestors and some of the results popped up in old newspapers. Just out of curiosity I did a search for 'Beatles 1961' and found that the Liverpool Echo has been archived. Here's a clip from The Liverpool Echo, dated Sat 11th Nov 1961. I've never seen the club and these nicknames mentioned before.
The Singing Rage - John
The Rockin' Riot - Paul
Sheik of Araby - George
The Bashful Beat - Pete
I dare say that Lewisohn etc have scoured these archives for research but it's the first time I was aware of them. Maybe useful if anyone wants to do their own research. Searches are free on the site, but you have to join/pay to view the results. Having said that, I can access the site for free from my local library.

Interesting too that they were considered the headliners at this early date

Sounds like some names Bob Wooler has thought up for them. Wooler was gay like Brian, and you can tell by the way he writes about them that he fancied them all something horrid!
