Thanks, might be interesting. I taped a similar show on 8 track tapes when I was young and listened to it so much I could tell you what song came alphabetically next. I wonder if it'll come back to me.

"8 track tapes" - The ones that were in the plastic case (8-track tape)? If so, I didn't know there was consumer-level recording devices available for those, or recordable tapes.

It's possible I'm misremembering what I recorded this radio A-Z show on. But I definitely 100% had an 8-track record deck in middle school to high school time frame, so late 70s / early 80s.

I don't think this is the one I had but here's an example of one. And you didn't need "recordable" 8-tracks, it would just record right over any old 8 track tape if I remember correctly.

Oh, yeah...and you remember correctly, InnerLight. That's what got my collection really jump-started. People would trade me their LPs and 45s for 8-tracks they could play in the car. If they wanted their records back, I'd make a copy for myself and charge them a couple of bucks (one for the blank tape, one for my time)--a nice little bit of spending money in the early '70s as well.

I got my machine for Xmas 1970...middle of 9th grade. First thing I taped off the radio was a local station's countdown of the top hits of 1970 on New Year's Day 1971. Not after that, a DJ (with much more ego than talent) put on a Beatles show one night--only four hours, hardly enough time for a "good" selection of tracks--which the station promoted for weeks beforehand with the oft-repeated phrase "The station that is all together brings back together the group that sang 'Come Together' but couldn't stay together." Yecch.
