How do post an actual picture in a thread

I can never do it despite my best efforts.
I can insert a link to a hosted picture but not the above.

In the attachments section below the text field there is an option to attach files. After you've uploaded your picture, click "place inline"

Have to have a valid link to the photo itself (.jpg, .gif, .bmp, .png) not a link to an HTML page. You also can't upload it to THIS space.

That was using "posting.cc" and using the direct link not the link option.
