George and "fit" birds

Post by Lord Reith »

Does George really sing

Woke up last night
half past four
fit women knocking on my door

If true, that's really quite sexy for a 1964 Beatles record!

Not being English, I don't know whether the slang "fit" to describe a girl is modern thing or was in usage at the time.
Women there don't treat you mean, in Abilene

I believe it's "fifty women"...or "fifteen women", either would be plenty ;)

Here's the isolated vocal track, in all its glory.

Officially, it's "fifteen women". No point being greedy...

It was either 15 or 19, Carl wasn't sure (or maybe it was 2 different nights...):

That surprises me. I know we're all anonymous on this forum but I always thought of you as English as 'fish & Chips' and 'leather on willow' :)

And 'fit birds' were certainly a thing when I was growing up in an English city in the 60's/70's.

Regardless of how many women were at the door, George and Carl both had 19 dates. Kind of like The Bachelor...
