So then the question is did all the footage and sound get restored after that or just what was needed for his edit and special features?

I would think they'd only restore the parts they're going to use.

Mind you, scanned from the original negatives it would look pretty damned sensational without any cleanup. The only sad thing is they're going to crop everything for widescreen. Kind of like one step froward and two steps back. It should be left in its original aspect.

Original films and tapes in London vault, Peter and team in New Zealand. Has anyone discussed the mechanics of this? I suspect the materials were digitized in London before editing began in NZ. No way all that stuff was physically relocated.

All this stuff is available on various private servers somewhere. If only I knew how to hack into them...

"A. When I watched it, they had already done a transfer, so I was watching it on a video system on the TV. But when we started working on it, we got them to scan the original negative in London in 4K – do a high-resolution scan of it. Then that was sent to New Zealand over the Internet."
