Is it useful to convert an original 125kbps mp4 file into another 495kbps flac format?

The quality of the original file cannot be improved, although its size increases.
Or I'm wrong?
No, just makes the file bigger. Like putting your letter in a bigger envelope.

Thank you LR.
I doubted if my limited knowledge was no longer valid.

Unfortunately, within the forum I often see audio in flac, converted from ripped ac3 source of 192 and 224 kbps. I guess it could be lack of knowledge, plus some kind of psychosis about getting flac files and belittling mp3

That might be recordings ripped from internet streams. If you don't know how to grab the actual stream (the lossy source) then the next best thing is to capture it in a lossless codec as it streams.
