R.I.P. Gary Brooker (1945-2022)

Post by dumbchops »

I really have been listening to a lot of Procol Harum over the last 6 months and they were quickly becoming one of my top 5 favorite bands when I just found out casually today that Gary Brooker (vocalist, pianist and composer) passed away from cancer on February 19th. For those wondering about his Beatles connection, his piano playing can be heard all over All Things Must Pass and many other solo George Harrison albums not to mention he's also toured with Ringo's All-Starr Band. As a pianist and composer myself, I can't really downplay the influence songs like "A Salty Dog" had on my own music.

My full name is Uncle Capt. "Skipper" Dumbchops and I seem to have misplaced my electric pretzel sharpener.

Oh no... One of my all time favourites. I hadn't spotted this.

A real shame. One of the best.

Before Gary Brooker & Robin Trower formed Procol Harum

They were known as The Paramounts

You need to get The Paramounts At Abbey Road

Awesome Album

I met Robin Trower 1 Nov 1994, Royal Inn Resturant & Lounge, Bellingham, Washington

RIP Gary Brooker

Sad news indeed - I had tickets for a Procol Harum concert in 2020 which was postponed due to the pandemic, and sadly Gary fell ill before it could be rescheduled. A wonderful voice, and by all accounts a top chap. I bought his second solo album because George was on it (!), and really got into his music from then on.
