Re: It was John who wanted a divorce ...
I felt very sad at some points during McCartney 123 when Paul was being probed about the breakup and you could see how much it affected him.
John was a terrible person during that period. He lashed out at and slandered just about everyone who had ever worked with him, unceremoniously dumped his wife and child in the space of 24 hours and acted in a totally selfish way in the studio. Poor Paul was just part of the collateral damage. As he says he thought he would be in The Beatles "forever". He built a new career with a new identity and raised himself up to superstar status all over again. It must be very hard for him to watch and hear The Beatles in their prime when they were all so close to one another, and trying to reconcile that with the bloodbath of the early 70s. He's obviously forgiven them, but you can see the wounds are deep.

Completely agree, and on top of all that Paul had all the blame and negative publicity for the break-up. I'm surprised it took Paul this long to put out in public what we've known all along.

I could not agree more with both of you and Paul. He bore the brunt for 50 years and deserves to share and lighten that damn burden. Peace.
Cheers All

Agreed. Here's a very interesting and informative blog that I've followed for a few years that explores many fascinating details and perspectives about the Beatles (including the hyped "villainy" of Paul and "victimization" of John during and after the breakup)... lots of good reading here:

If it wasn't for Paul McCartney, the Beatles would have been Klein's BITCHES! John, George & Ringo all owe Paul a BIG thankyou for the lawsuit! Paul saved the Beatles' Legacy and a TON of $$$ to boot.

JOHN FOUNDED the whole thing, was/*is* THE REBEL ICON from the '60s, and NOBODY will ever rob him of THAT legacy.
Not insecure, corporate ass-kisser Paul...nor the media/U.S. Gov't sockpuppets who killed him for being a free thinking spirited threat to their war games and thievery.
Even Mayo's become such a fake and pathetic grifter desperate for UMe promo freebies in the mail.

I don't think any of the above comments are trying to rob John's "rebel icon" legacy from him. And because Paul is a good businessman and driven to excel, that hardly makes him an "insecure, corporate ass-kisser". As much as we all love them, they weren't gods... they were just cool guys who made some great and lasting musichogshead of hellfire wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 8:00 pm JOHN FOUNDED the whole thing, was/*is* THE REBEL ICON from the '60s, and NOBODY will ever rob him of THAT legacy.
