Death was the only way he could get out of the contract.

I've been reading about Charlie and am surprised to learn how ordinary he was. He was married to the same girl for 50 years, didn't take drugs until the 1980s, and had no interest in rock and roll or the rock and roll lifestyle. He was kind of a Pete Best character - but a good drummer!

I'm so sorry to learn of Charlie's passing.

One of the things I clearly remember reading about him before there was an internet is that he was unable to find the groove for "Gimme Shelter," and gave over the drum seat to Jimmy Miller, who came up with the record's signature drum part. This has since been re-historized as Watts playing drums and Miller playing percussion. Who to believe?

They have barely survived the retirement of Bill Wyman on bass. Whoever they get to fill in for Charlie in the future, The Rolling Stones will never sound the same again.
Eye. Eyesore a girl in my dreams.
