RIP Charlie Watts (1941-2021)
Re: RIP Charlie Watts (1941-2021)
When heard he was ill and at that age it was just a matter of time. Sad news indeed.

Re: RIP Charlie Watts (1941-2021)
He and Bill Wyman, IMO, made up the best rhythm section in ANY R'n'R band; even if you just take a listen to their early cover material, like of Bobby Womack's "It's All Over Now" being a prime example.
["Bitch" is another one you just want to crank-up and focus on the drums and bass of....and, yes: I DO think that Mick slurs the line to sound like "You've got to mix it CHAARHLIE"....not "CHHI-ile". I mean, "Bitch" is a lot like an in-joke song of Mick lamenting his love life (much like "Satisfaction"). So, when Mick says in the lyrics he feels like he's on and romantically scoring: he compares his heart to then "pounding like a big bass drum" (which, of course, would circle back to shouting out a "Charlie reference"; as he seemed prone to do during stuff from that '69-'74 era: "Charlie's right tonight/etc.") seeming like a totally logical interpretation. At least, that's how I ALWAYS hear it (contrary to the "official" view of the IORR site opinion).]

He'd be equal to Ringo as he was pretty quiet but his style of drumming could hold down a classic song without going overboard.

Great drummer. Like Ringo, he didn't smother the songs with self-indulgent noodling.
I guess this means it really is the end of the road for the Stones. Can't imagine them without Charlie.

I thought similar, like Ringo, just did what he needed to do, he wasn't a Keith Moon or Ginger Baker. He was a solid, reliable drummer.Lord Reith wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 12:15 am Great drummer. Like Ringo, he didn't smother the songs with self-indulgent noodling.

Had a "Stones" night last evening. Just playing their earlier stuff 62-67.
Respect to him, his family, RIP.
