Complete Capitol Masters (mono & stereo)

Post by mojofilter »

THE BEATLES
COMPLETE CAPITOL MASTERS
US Albums in stereo & mono

I got these in a mail trade in 1999. The artwork that came with the discs varied between inkjet on paper and laserjet on glossy paper. I had no files, though. Some of the covers say (p) 1996, so I figure that's when it appeared. I haven't seen it traded anywhere since. Each of the discs is tagged, with embedded images of the LP front covers for both mono and stereo albums.

Part 1: hxxps://we.tl/t-fzzhw9Gse0
- Meet The Beatles, Second Album, A Hard Day's Night, Something New
Part 2: hxxps://we.tl/t-N1Gfnj5jrB
- The Beatles Story (stereo), Beatles '65, The Early Beatles, Beatles VI
Part 3: hxxps://we.tl/t-RJBaGA8Yjd
- Help! (US), Rubber Soul (US), Yesterday And Today, Revolver (US), The Beatles Again/Hey Jude, At The Hwd Bowl, Love Songs, US Rarities.

They appear not to have done a Sgt. Pepper, MMT, White, Abbey Road, Let It Be, 62-66. 67-70 or Rock 'n' Roll Music. Or the trader didn't have them, I don't know. If you have this set and those titles are in it, we'd be pleased if you could help to fill out the set. Thanks in advance.

Links good seven days.
Enjoy!

Thanks Mojo, questions abound!

Are these sourced from vinyl? If so, which? Prior to the date you mention (1996), in my collection I see 1978, 1980 and 1983 US Capitol LPs.

Of course they could have also used cassette or R2R sources.

It was last century, I don't remember anything about it. They were available titles on someone's printed list. They sound pretty clean, but I haven't listened to them all the way through. I didn't hear any clicks or pops, and this would have been before transparent declicking. So it's quite possible that they're from tape source. If only we had a website, like a zone for bootlegs, where we could look up stuff like this... Anyway, you're welcome.

It's pretty interesting. You can tell that the stereo albums are the real Capitol masters, but the mono ones appear to be recreations from UK material. The Help! album has the real mono mixes, for example, and the mono mix of You Can't Do That is the one from the UK AHDN rather than the rougher mix on the original Second Album. But some of the more unique US mixes are included, like all of the ones on Yesterday and Today and AHDN/Something New. I really do wonder who did these sets. It's almost like a precursor to the 2014 US Albums box!
