The Rutles - Sgt. Rutter's Only Darts Club Band: Definitive Edition (2021)

Years ago, I made the first full-length Rutles album to make the rounds online - my vision of what "Sgt. Rutter's Only Darts Club Band" would sound like, made using tracks from throughout the Rutles', Neil Innes' and Ricky Fataar's catalogs. Over time, though, I realize it could've been done better. I didn't care for some of my song choices, nor the idea to make it entirely mono with annoying fake vinyl crackle.

This year, I finally remedied that, recreating the album from scratch - in full stereo this time (except for one track where no stereo version exists), and what I feel are the definitive song choices. This, I hope, is the END-ALL version of "Sgt. Rutter."

06) Kenny and Liza - Originally, I had Neil's band GRIMMS butchering "She's Leaving Home"; but I since learned that Neil had an unreleased alternate version of his rocker "Kenny and Liza" clearly intended as a SLH homage. This fits the album MUCH better.

11) Hey Mister! - My original compilation was missing a "Good Morning" entirely.... the release of the Rutles' "Wheat Album" changed that, with the inclusion of a very unfinished version of "Hey Mister!" that revealed it was originally intended as a GMGM parody, with elements present that are missing from the final track. I've restored them to the final song here - AND given the song a new ending appropriate to this set!

Thanks TheLazenby! I remember finding your Rutles album 2 or 3 years ago (I think they were on YouTube?)… I grabbed all I could find; such a fun listen

Looking forward to your Sgt Rutter upgrade, thank you for sharing it here. One observation: I always thought “Nevertheless” was the parody song of “Within You Without You”, so is “Solitude” more fitting?

"Solitude" is a MUCH better fit - this track was obviously the Flames' "Within You Without You" pastiche (with Stig, to boot)!

"Nevertheless" is a blatant parody of "Love You To", it really doesn't fit.

I actually just sat down and watched The Rutles - All You Need Is Cash. Even though it was a parody, they really nailed it.
