Philadelphia 1964 Pre-FM Soundboard (CDR, no label)

Last year , a CDR called "Philadelphia 1964 Pre-FM Soundboard came out in Japan... because I'm too stupid, I bought it a couple of months ago just for the yucks of comparing it to all the other Philadelpha/Whiskey Flats discs released over the last bunch of years.

I wasn't expecting much. This disc was so under-the-radar that if it was any good, surely someone would've spotted it by now. Right? Right off the bat I wasn't able to get it to play on my CD player. Sometimes CDRs are like that. Finicky. Luckily though, my computer cd/dvd drive recognized the disc. To my surprise, I really liked the sound. I've shared it with a few people whose opinions I value, and they seemed to like it too. Our collective guess is that it derives from a very effectively re-EQ'd remaster of the same source tape other boot labels have used.

This might actually be the best Philly 1964 boot out there. I still like the overall sound of that IMP "Off-Reel" disc... but this has some really good bass responses.

FWIW, if you want to make a quick comparison, included in the download is a file of "Can't Buy Me Love" clips from a bunch of different boots, including
- the Valkyrie "Whiskey Flat" disc
- Golden Eggs's "It's Loud Isn't It?"
- IMP's "Philadelphia 1964 Off-Reel"
- IMP's "North American Tour 1964 Volume 1"
- the old Yellow Dog "Ultimate Live Collection Volume 1"

Here's the giginjapan listing for the "Pre-FM Soundboard" disc:
