I need to go back and do this for the Rock of Ages show too, but here's the breakdown of the Birth of the Beatles show. It's always interesting to me how full of fluff these shows are. I mean, I get it, let's make a 20 minute interview into a 45 minute show, but I digress...

Code: Select all

Runtime: 42:52
Presenter: Ray ??? (Allan mentions his name 'Ray' a couple of time, but of course never says his last name, and there isn't a proper Intro or Outro, so he never says it himself.)

1. The Beatles - Love Me Do [1:27]
2. Intro/Allan Williams Interview [2:28]
3. Gerry and the Pacemakers - I Like It [2:12]
4. Allan Williams Interview [0:24]
5. The Beatles - Twist and Shout [2:29]
6. Allan Williams Interview [0:41]
7. The Beatles - Money [2:18]
8. Allan Williams Interview [5:23]
9: The Beatles - From Me To You [1:54]
10: Bob Wooler Interview [2:26]
11: The Beatles - She Loves You [2:18]
12: Bob Wooler Interview [0:33]
13: The Beatles - And I Love Her [2:27]
14: [silence] [0:12]
15: The Beatles - And I Love Her [2:27]
16: Bob Wooler Interview [2:26]
17: The Beatles - I Feel Fine [2:20]
18: Allan Williams & Bob Wooler Interview [4:23]
19: The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever [2:51]
20: Allan Williams Interview [1:13]

No. 3
Next up is 'Making Waves' - a review of the Beatles solo careers from Capital Radio (London), presented by Alan Freeman. There's a few adverts on the tape and one of them is promoting the movie 'Breaking Glass' which was released in Sept 1980. Nothing really new in the programme, just a cut and paste of interviews and music. No edits etc, just de-clicked. This is the raw tape and I'll edit out the adverts for my own copy. They can be interesting in their own right though, like the 'Fashion Fair' at Kensington Town Hall advert, entrance to the show was 20p. Makes you feel old, doesn't it ?

Thanks a lot. This promises to be a fascinating series!

Here's a cue-file that you can use if you want to hear a chapterized version of the "Birth of The Beatles" programme: hXXps://we.tl/t-L7EjDmZ8rE .

If you are not familiar with cue files:
  • rename the flac file to Birth of The Beatles
  • drop the cue file in the same folder as the flac file
  • associate the cue file with your media player
  • double-click the cue file (not the flac!).
This is how the cue file is laid out:

Keith Badman lists this interview in his book 'The Beatles Diary Volume 2: After The Break-Up 1970-2001' as 11th Sept 1980. Keith was an old friend of mine, once upon a time.

We met at the Liverpool Conventions when a youthful Mark Lewisohn was battling it out against Steve Phillips in the Beatles Brain of Britain Competition. I often wondered what Steve was up to today.....
